Rachel Comey SS23 Prints
These prints were created for the Rachel Comey Spring/Summer 2023 collection.
Blockprint Flower Print
This print was made for Rachel Comey’s SS23 collection as a play on a woodblock print. Though it was made digitally, I put painstaking care into the minute details to emulate the precise flicks and curves of a woodcarving tool. There are two colorways of this print; one is vibrant and more directly depicts flowers, and the other is a tonal very near-white, so subtle that it doesn’t immediately register as a print, but moreso as a texture, until your eyes make out the slight details.
Horses Print
This print for Rachel Comey SS23 was based on a vintage children’s pajama shirt. I loved the visual of these wild horses running free, and wanted to find a way to update it to be a part of a modern high fashion collection. These two colorways I chose, the orange and blue and the chartreuse and lavender, felt like the perfect balance between new and old, keeping softer elements that wouldn’t have been so out of place in the Wild Wild West, but veering them towards today, a freaky little technicolor acid trip.
Woodwork Toile Prints
A vintage dress inspired this print for Rachel Comey SS23. The intricate details at first presented a challenge, but quickly became the driving force of this print, and enabling the production of two colorways with vastly different intentions. For the first, I used various tones of green to simulate a sort of off-sepia effect and emulate a classic toile print, with subtle pastoral scenes woven into the flourishes. The other colorway went in entirely different direction, explosions of blue and orange and fuchsia complementing a steamy summer night.
